In a concerted effort to make a positive impact on the local community, members of the RC Entebbe Base, in collaboration with the Rotaract Club of Bwebajja, undertook a transformative project at the Fish Market in Entebbe on October 17, 2023. This endeavor aimed not only to enhance the environmental cleanliness of the beach where vendors sell fish from but also to empower the women working at the fish market with essential skills for both their personal and professional development emphasizing the importance of environmental stewardship. The volunteers worked diligently to clear litter and debris, revitalizing the area and creating a more aesthetically pleasing space for both locals and visitors.
The project went beyond just environmental conservation. Recognizing the need to empower the women at the fish market, members of RC Entebbe Base organized workshops focusing on basic financial skills, sanitation, and hygiene. The goal was to equip these women with knowledge that would enhance their overall well-being and contribute to the sustainability of their livelihoods.
As part of their commitment to supporting the activities of the fish market, RC Entebbe Base generously donated assorted items, including knives, pangas, and cleaning equipment. These tools are essential for the women in their daily tasks. The donation was met with gratitude and appreciation from the recipients.
The culmination of the project was marked by engaging and enjoyable activities that brought a sense of community and camaraderie. Rotations and Rotaractors present facilitated fish scaling and filleting sessions, thus not only making the learning experience interactive but also providing valuable insights into the fish industry. The atmosphere was filled with laughter and shared moments as the participants collaborated in the hands-on activities.
The success of this project was not just measured by the physical transformation of the beach but by the positive impact on the lives of the women at the fish market. The day left an enduring legacy of empowerment, environmental consciousness, and the spirit of collaboration in the hearts of all involved.
